Greening Initiative

Located only 30 miles west of Denver in the breathtaking foothills of the Rocky Mountains, we are reminded each day of the sublime beauty of the world around us.

30 miles west of a vibrant downtown in most cities would mean suburbia. For us it means sanctuary, so it is no surprise that we seek earth-friendly practices in all that we do. That said, we are not as green as we ought to be or as we want to be. Thankfully, our community is insisting that we improve dramatically how we function as a learning community when it comes to honoring the nature that sustains us.

In 2016 we established our elementary and middle school student-led and faculty-and-family supported Green Team with the aim of better embodying our green-inclined community’s desire to honor well the gift that is our globe. Our dream is to one day be honored as an official Department of Education Green Ribbon School by having a net zero environmental impact, improving the health of our entire school community, and ensuring student environmental and sustainability literacy. In truth, our students have even bigger dreams than a Green Ribbon designation. They envision Evergreen Country Day leading effective advocacy in our area, seeking alternative energy solutions as we strive to be a school completely off the grid, idle-free carpool, and even harvesting our own vegetables for school lunch.
