Science

The global economy will increasingly require nuanced right and left-brained problem solvers with the ability to think critically, create, iterate, and innovate—the engineer with an eye for design aesthetic and the computer programmer who values poetry. Via our computer science, Tinker Time, STEAM School, and Next Generation Science efforts, we ensure that our students are prepared to thrive in a 21st century economy and to solve humanity’s most complex challenges.

Science in our Nest comes alive during Tinker Time in our Tinker Lab. Tinker time integrates fine arts, engineering, literacy, and science into a student-inspired, project-based curriculum. Tinker Time is designed to engage students in lessons that involve architecture/engineering, computer science, creative arts and science discovery that make their curiosities explode with questions and a desire to learn more.

Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) comprise our elementary science program called STEAM School. STEAM School is designed to inspire and to unleash the wonder of the world within each of our students. Dedicating time for our young engineers to dream, design, and build, STEAM School also emphasizes scientific-process skills such as generating meaningful questions, researching, gathering and analyzing data, and forming conclusions.

Rooted in Next Generation Science Standards, our middle school science program embraces the importance of grasping science concepts in all areas of the scientific process. As a result, all aspects of our curriculum—earth science, physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering–embrace the development of the foundational science concepts our students will need to succeed in high school and beyond.
